FIRST DAY IN hONDURAS

Well, this is an experience. I am in a strange country, driving a cool but questionably reliable truck, not speaking 5 words of the language, sitting in an internet cafe in an unfamiliar town, Steve, Hope, and Sarah have left, Pablo is in a hospital an hour away, and I am the only English-speaking person that I know as a result. I have locked up at the mission house, checked the medicines at the clinic, driven to the hotel, and I have no idea what I am going to do tomorrow. My computer has given up the ghost, so all my school files are currently inaccessible, I have a list of responsibilities that has changed several times in the last 3 hours, I am hungry but am not sure how to order food in Spanish. I am driving on little roads, aware that, if I have a breakdown or hit something, I will be unable to talk to anyone when I get out, so I am driving extremely carefully. I am typing on a keyboard with many of the letters worn off, with all the instructions in Swahili, as far as I know.

Oddly, in spite of all of this, I am quite at peace. If you are one of those praying for me, I am thankful. I had hoped to have pictures for you, but my computer is down, so, at least for the moment, I am unable. ñ

The work going on here is absolutely amazing. Much has been learned during the last 3 years since I was here before, and the work is changing as a result, all for the better. The feeding program has been narrowed down, and the work with the children is less broad, more intense, and more focused on helping a few to really break out of the mold, get education, and return to their people to change the culture. Steve and Hope have some good ideas for the future of the work in Honduras, and I am pleased to be here as a part of that.

More details will be provided as time allows, it is getting dark, and is time for gringoes to be off the streets.

Arrived in Honduras

Well, half of me landed in Honduras uneventfully. Internet access is readily available, and the work is certainly here to be done. I will get some pictures and an update onto the blog in the next couple of days, but wanted to get the blog update established. More soon. (The other half of me arrives 6/13)
